Neolecta is a systematically quite isolated genus of the hose fungus , which alone forms the class Neolectomycetes . The species are saprobionts in moist forests.
features
Neolecta forms a multinucleated mycelium . The askocarp is developed as an apothecium that is stalked and fleshy. A tissue between the asci is not formed. The cylindrical asci are formed directly by binuclear cells that undergo karyogamy , meiosis, and another mitotic division one after the other , creating eight ascospores.
An anamorphic form is not known.
Systematics
The genus forms its own class within the Taphrinomycotina .
