Neomorphus is a genus of the subfamily of neomorphinae in the family of cuckoos .

Distribution and characteristics

Representatives of the genus Neomorphus live in the Neotropic in tropical rainforests . The cuckoos have a noticeably large hood , long legs and long control feathers . When foraging for food, they follow swarms of ants and eat the prey that the ants startle. All species are not breeding parasites .

Systematics

The genus includes five species . Sister taxon is the genus Geococcyx . The scale ground cuckoo is classified by some authors as a subspecies of the Tajazuikuckucks ( Neomorphus geoffroyi squamiger ). The German names follow Avibase.
