The hybrid catnip ( Nepeta × faassenii ) is a plant hybrids within the genus of Catnip ( Nepeta ) in the family Labiatae (Lamiaceae).

The hybrid catnip is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 25 to 50, rarely up to 75 centimeters. The leaf blade is narrowly ovate to lanceolate with a truncated or guttural base . The chalice is 5 to 6 millimeters long. The crown is 6 to 12 millimeters long. The nuts are probably always sterile.

The flowering period extends from June to September.

Systematics

The hybrid catnip is a hybrid of the two species Nepeta racemosa and Nepeta nepetella that was created in 1853 . To this day, it can only be clearly distinguished from the two types of parents. The specific epithet honors the Dutch plant breeder Johannes Hubertus Faassen (1892–1963).

The hybrid catnip varieties are widely used as ornamental plants in borders and enclosures. From plantings they grow wild, especially in settlement areas, and become naturalized, e.g. B. in North Rhine-Westphalia.
