The Neptun 471 ship series , also known as the Jobella series , is a multi-purpose cargo ship from the Rostock shipyard "Neptun".

history

The series was manufactured in thirteen units from 1973 to 1981. The ships are primarily intended for the combined transport of general cargo, containers, heavy cargo, wood, cellulose, paper and bulk cargo.

The first ship and namesake of the series was the Jobella launched on April 30, 1973 with the home port Oslo. The ship with hull number 471 was initially laid down as the Joanita and later renamed several times. From 1999 it was in service as Ornella and from 2007 as Rafi . The ship was deleted from the register on September 9, 2011.

The fate of Hansa , which was launched on April 20, 1974 and sold to a Norwegian shipping company, was remarkable . She was the fourth ship in the series and the second ship in the series to be named Hansa . After it was renamed Cycle in 1975 and Timur Endeavor in 1980 , it was fixed in Basrah on November 29, 1980 as a result of the First Gulf War and could only be sold for demolition after its release. On January 1, 1994, it arrived at Gadani Beach for scrapping .

The VEB Deutfracht / Seereederei Rostock (DSR) put its first Neptun 471 ship into service with the Freital on March 17, 1977 . The Aken , Köthen and Bergen , which also went to DSR, followed as further new buildings .

The last ship was hull number 494 of the series, the Alexander Schulte , which was put into service under the German flag and which, after being renamed several times, was put on the beach in Alang for demolition on September 13, 2009.

Two ships were lost to stranding and one to a fire. The shipping company Helmut Bastian had another ship of the series, the Beate , converted into the gas tanker Olefine Gas at the Sietas shipyard in 1987 . The ship was canceled in Alang in May 2010.

technology

The ships were powered by a 3972 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K6Z 57 / 80F manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt, which acts directly on a fixed propeller. The machinery is set up for remote operation from the bridge.

The hulls with bulbous bow are joined together in a sectional construction. The living and working area of the aft deck superstructure is air-conditioned.

The two long cargo holds, optimized for container transport, with a volume of 10,413 m 3 grain space and 10,357 m 3 bale space have smooth side walls and little under- storage thanks to the double-hull construction . The cargo holds are locked securely at sea with MacGregor hatch covers. A total of 213 containers or 2278 standard wood can be transported. The loading gear consists of two 15-ton and two 30-ton swing booms from the Velle system.
