Posterior femoral cutaneous nerve

Dermatomes of the thigh. The innervation area of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve is shown in green.
The nervus cutaneus femoris posterior ("posterior thigh skin nerve ") is a sensitive nerve of the cross plexus ( plexus sacralis ). It innervates the skin of the back of the thighs to the hollow of the knee and parts of the perineum . In animals it is called the caudal femoral cutaneous nerve .
The cells of origin ( root cells ) of the nerve are located in the cross part of the spinal cord from the first to the third cross vertebra (S1-S3).
course
In humans, the nerve runs together with the inferior gluteus nerve , the inferior gluteal artery , the sciatic nerve , the pudendal nerve, and the internal pudendal artery and vein through the infrapiriforme foramen , the part of the greater ischial foramen below the piriformis muscle .
