Thoracodorsal nerve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thoracodorsal nerve (from the Latin thorax "chest", dorsum "back") is a nerve of the brachial plexus . It has its origin in the 6th to 8th neck segment of the spinal cord (C6-C8) and leaves the plexus in the posterior fasciculus between the junctions of the superior and inferior subscapular nerves . The nerve runs with the vessels of the same name ( arteria thoracodorsalis , vena thoracodorsalis ) along the inside of the latissimus dorsi muscle and innervates it. In humans, it is partly responsible for the innervation of the teres major muscle (occasionally together with the subscapularis nerve ).
