Nes is a village on the West Frisian , Dutch island of Ameland .
General information
With around 1200 inhabitants, Nes is the largest village on the island. It is famous for its historic captains' houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and, with its large pedestrian zone with numerous restaurants and shops, is the tourist center of Ameland. In addition to the beach, important sights and excursion destinations are the historic village center with a stand-alone village tower from the 17th century, the former headquarters of the Dutch rescue company, the windmill "De Phenix" and the local recreation area "De Vleyen". There is also a large natural history museum with an observation tower in Nes. The island's tourist office is also located directly at the ferry port.
Port and ferry service
The island's ferry port is also located in Nes, where the “Sier” and “Oerd” ferries from Holwerd dock. A marina is adjacent to the ferry port.
