New features were AFP version 3.1 support for long file names and UTF-8 character sets, file and volume sizes> 2 GB, compatibility with macOS , integration of CUPS , Kerberos support as well as persistent storage of file and directory IDs as well as numerous bug fixes to previous versions.

With version 2.0.5, Netatalk is compatible with the Time Machine data backup software and thus enables backups over the network up to version Mac OS X 10.6.8.
