Netinho de Paula , actually José de Paula Neto , (born July 11, 1970 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian singer, TV presenter, actor and PCdoB politician.

Life

Netinho de Paula was born in Santo Amaro / São Paulo in 1970 and grew up in a Cohab social housing and poor conditions in Carapicuíba on the outskirts of São Paulo. His mother died when he was 11 years old, and when he was seven, Netinho de Paula was making a living as a street vendor. In 1986 at the age of 15 he joined the band Negritude Júnior as a singer. Her greatest successes were “Cohab City” and “Tanajura”. In 1998 he represented the TV presenter Xuxa on her program Planeta Xuxa during her maternity leave. In 2001 Netinho de Paula began a solo career and at the same time worked as a presenter for Rede Record until 2007 . The Domingo da Gente show was a great success. Netinho de Paula campaigned for the situation of the poor and against the discrimination of the predominantly colored population in the favelas and social housing projects in the big city.

From 2005 to 2007 there was the TV da Gente with Netinho de Paula, which was only broadcast in northeast Brazil. Due to his great popularity, Netinho de Paula was elected in 2008 with 84,406 votes as city councilor of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) in São Paulo. For 2010, he was calculated to have great chances of entering the Brazilian Senate. Aloysio Nunes of the PSDB gained more votes and became a deputy from São Paulo in the Senate.

In 2008 he returned to television and until March 2010 hosted the SBT show da Gente , including the successful Um Dia de Princesa format . Netinho de Paula got involved in social projects such as the Casa da Gente in Carapicuíba. He helped 400 children and young people to get a school education, music lessons and vocational training.

Private

In February 2005, Netinho de Paula was charged with beating his wife, Sandra Mendes de Figueiredo. After the trial, he was banned from returning to his wife's home. On November 20, 2005, Netinho de Paula began another assault against the TV comedian Rodrigo Scarpa de Castro during the event "Troféu Raça Negra 2005". The occasion is said to have been a play on words. Netinho de Paula was sentenced to pay Rodrigo Scarpa compensation for pain and suffering.
