Maria da Graça "Xuxa" Meneghel [ ma'ɾiɐ da'gɾasɐ 'ʃuʃa me'nɛgɛw ] (born March 27, 1963 in Santa Rosa in Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian and Italian television presenter , actress and singer .

Life

The nickname Xuxa comes from her brother Bladimir when he first saw his sister. She spent part of her childhood and youth in the state of Rio de Janeiro , where the family moved because of her father's military activities. At the age of 15 she was discovered on a train journey, after which she received a modeling contract at the age of 16 . Since 1982 she has appeared in Brazilian film productions and in the TV show Clube da Criança on the TV station Rede Manchete, which operated until 1999 . The music for the show came from the band Trem da Alegria .

Shows for the little ones

In 1986 Xuxa was invited by the director Mario Lúcio Vaz to participate in the Xou da Xouxa at TV Globo until 1992. In 1989, she had also hosted a Sunday program called Bobeou Dançou . In 1991 she had the Saturday morning show Paradão da Xuxa on the same broadcaster, TV Globo . Other programs were Programa da Xuxa (1993), Xuxa Park (1994-2001), Xuxa Hits (1995-1996), Xuxa no Mundo da Imaginação (2002-2004) and TV Xuxa (2005-2014).

The English-language version of the children's program Programa da Xuxa , which she moderated, was broadcast from 1993 to 1994, but flopped in the USA. It was previously known that u. a. Nude recordings of Xuxa had appeared in Playboy .

Xuxa also started an international career as a presenter. She released an album in Spanish in 1990 , debuted a TV program in Argentina in 1991 , and Xuxa Park in Spain in 1992. At times, the blonde was present on four programs at the same time. Xuxa also had a show in English for producer MTM in 1993.

Music albums

In 1988 the album Xou Da Xuxa 3 was released, which was also intended for their child audience and their biggest hit to date, Ilariê , contained. In 1989 she founded the Xuxa Meneghel Foundation for street children to help. She was also involved in a polio vaccination campaign.

Xuxa was the first Brazilian entry on Forbes' list of the richest artists. In 1991 she reached 37th place with $ 19 million.

She had relationships with the football star Pelé and the racing driver Ayrton Senna .

In 2005, three groups simultaneously made Xuxa's biggest hit Ilariê in Germany a summer hit : Las Chicas , Hot Banditoz and Buttons .

controversy

On May 21, 2014, Xuxa's presence in the Brazilian Parliament when the law against corporal punishment was being passed was strongly protested. The background is the 1982 film Love, Strange Love ( Amor Estranho Amor ), in which sexual contact between Xuxa and a twelve-year-old boy was shown in a scene. This form of violence is much worse than the corporal punishment of an adolescent, argued especially the evangelical wing of politicians. Since 1982 the actress has successfully prevented the film from being commercialized by the rights holder Cinearte with an annual compensation payment of US $ 60,000 to the same. On the other hand, a lawsuit against Google with the intention of deleting links from the search engine pointing to nude pictures of the actress with the twelve-year-old was less successful. Brazil's Supreme Court (STJ) denied this request in June 2012. Another lawsuit was dismissed by the STJ in September 2014, the aim of which was to remove links with the terms "Xuxa" and "pedophilia".
