Netty Simons
Netty Simons (born Netty Rothenberg , born October 26, 1913 in New York City , † April 1, 1994 ) was an American composer.
Simons attended Third Street Music School from 1928 to 1933 . At New York University she studied between 1931 and 1937 with Marion Bauer and Percy Grainger . In 1933 she took piano lessons with Alexander Siloti at the Juilliard School of Music . From 1938 to 1942 she was a private student of Stefan Wolpe , with whom she was friends until his death in 1972.
Simons taught at the Music Settlement School and later at Ann Arbor University. In addition to several operas, Simons mainly composed works for chamber music and vocal works.
