Pretty Boy Floyd is an American glam metal band that formed in Hollywood , California in 1987. The band was named after the American criminal Charles Arthur "Pretty Boy" Floyd .

founding

Pretty Boy Floyd was founded in 1986 when the band "Doll" broke up with lead singer Steve Summers and reformed into Pretty Boy Floyd. After a few line-up changes, Steve Summers as singer, Kristy Majors (guitarist), Kari Kane (drums) and Vinnie Chas (bass) became the first line-up of the band on stage. After a few live shows, in which mainly older pieces by Doll were presented in a new guise, Pretty Boy Floyd got a recording contract with MCA Records.

Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz

In 1989 Pretty Boy Floyd released their debut album "Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz" which was produced by Howard Benson. According to the band, the album sold over 750,000 copies around the world and reached number 130 on the Billboard charts. In addition, two songs from the album, namely "Rock N 'Roll (Set the Night on Fire)" and "I Wanna Be with You", were released as a video, which ran on MTV for some time . At the same time, a Canadian band called Pretty Boy Floyd also released an album, but they later changed their name. Some songs were also used for movie soundtracks. The song "48 Hours" is on the soundtrack for Karate Kid III - The Final Decision . After a few live performances, the band wanted to record their second album "Tonight Belongs to the Young", but was then dropped by the record company.

Dissolution and reunion

During the great grunge wave in 1991, Pretty Boy Floyd temporarily broke up. In 1995 Steve Summers and Kristy Majors reunited and produced the EP "A Tale of Sex, Designer Drugs, and the Death of Rock N Roll" with Kari Kane, guitarist Keri Kelly and ex- LA Guns bassist Keff Ratcliffe. In 1998 the album "Porn Stars" followed, which in addition to new recordings of old "Leather-Boyz-with-Electric-Toyz" pieces also contained some songs from the previously unreleased album "Tonight Belongs to the Young".

Size Really Does Matter

After Pretty Boy Floyd had performed many live performances and released a few compilations and live albums, the next studio album came out in 2003. This was recorded without Kristy Majors, who was one of the only remaining founding members alongside Steve Summers. Kristy Majors wanted to concentrate on his solo project for now. Therefore, apart from Steve Summers, the album was recorded by a completely new band. The album received mostly very positive reviews, but was not very successful commercially.

today

In 2006 Kristy Majors returned to Pretty Boy Floyd. Live performances were played and Kristy Majors continued to take care of his solo career. In 2009 Pretty Boy Floyd went on a world tour on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of "Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz" and gained more prominence again. A year later the band released a tribute album by the band Kiss and toured the world again. Although the new releases could not come close to the previous years commercially, Pretty Boy Floyd could always rely on a loyal fan base. With Public Enemies , a self-composed album was released in 2017 after 14 years.
