The New Saint Peter Church

The New Saint Peter Church is the second largest and youngest Roman Catholic church in the Upper Palatinate district town of Tirschenreuth in the diocese of Regensburg . The Sichtziegelbau was in 1962-63, designed by Hans Beckers by the Divine Word Missionaries in addition to their mission buildings erected and by then Regensburg on June 30, 1963 Bishop Josef Hiltl consecrated .

The floor plan of the church represents the symbol of God's omnipotence , a regular hexagon . The 21 meter high pointed roof has the shape of a tent . Already in line with the ideas of the Second Vatican Council , the stalls, structured by three intermediate aisles, are arranged in a semicircle around the main altar made of Italian travertine . Behind the altar is a mosaic of the risen Christ with a cloud.
