The Neukirchener Erziehungsverein is a Germany-wide active Christian children's aid organization with an affiliated publishing company . Originally founded as an "association for the education of poor, abandoned and neglected children in families" by the evangelical theologian and pedagogue Andreas Bräm in Neukirchen-Vluyn in 1845 , the main activity today is in child, youth and family aid as well as in the disabled and Elderly care. Over 3,000 children and young people across Germany are cared for in institutions of the educational association. Siegmund Ehrmann, a member of the Bundestag, has been the president since 2009 . The patron of the Neukirchen Child and Youth Welfare Foundation is the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen . The Neukirchener Erziehungsverein is a free member of the Diakonisches Werk of the Evangelical Church. The Neukirchener Verlag , founded in 1888, focuses on the publication of theological writings. In 1991 the Paul-Gerhardt-Werk, located in Berlin and Brandenburg, was founded as a subsidiary of the Neukirchener Erziehungsverein. He works in Berlin and mainly in southern Brandenburg. These include in southern Brandenburg z. B. the "old school" in Klingmühl. This facility has taken on difficult-to-educate children and adolescents.
Facilities
The Neukirchener Erziehungsverein maintains both outpatient and inpatient facilities for disadvantaged, abused or handicapped children. Altogether, the Neukirchener Erziehungsverein cares for more than 3,000 people in the various facilities by around 1,800 employees. In the area of assistance for the disabled, the assistance model according to Willem Kleine Schaars is used.
- Outpatient facilities: In addition to child and youth welfare offices, there are special needs schools, special educational day groups and youth centers.
- Inpatient facilities: The center of the inpatient facilities is the children's and youth village in Neukirchen-Vluyn. In addition, there are residential groups throughout Germany and projects such as assisted living or social space projects in ten federal states. The educational association also operates three old people's homes.
Since September 2010, juvenile intensive offenders have been given intensive pedagogical care on a farm in Neukirchen-Vluyn until their trial. The Neukirchener Erziehungsverein is cooperating with the “Stop and Go NRW” project.

Neukirchen publishing company
The Neukirchener Verlagsgesellschaft consists of three publishers: the Neukirchener Verlag, founded in 1888, the aussaat-Verlag, founded in 1891, and the Neukirchener Verlagshaus. As a matter of course, the publishers fulfill a “literary missionary mandate” and the publications cover a wide variety of theological areas. The best-known publications include the annual Neukirchen calendar and the children's bible by Irmgard Weth (Protestant theologian and philologist and wife of Rudolf Weth ). Other well-known authors include pastor and writer Wilhelm Busch and the Protestant theologian and lecturer Rudolf Weth.
people
Particularly associated with the educational association are the theologian and lecturer Dr. Rudolf Weth (from 1973 to 2003 director and theological director of the educational association), the musician and composer Hans-Jürgen Hufeisen , who himself grew up in the Neukirchen-Vluyn children's village until 1972, and the president of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland Nikolaus Schneider , who has a seat in the Was on the board of the Erziehungsverein until 2013. The former regional bishop Margot Käßmann was a guest at the 163rd annual festival of the educational association in 2008 and gave the sermon in the festival service. Another prominent guest was Franz Müntefering, who visited the social space project “Kempener Feld” in Krefeld in his role as a member of the Bundestag family committee.
