history

Neusörnewitz was created in the 19th century in the course of industrialization in the corridor of the village of Sörnewitz. Industrial companies settled along the Borsdorf – Coswig railway line , including a large earthenware factory in 1897. It had 5000 employees at times on an area of more than 12 hectares, and VEB Baustoffwerke Sörnewitz emerged from it. The Steinutstrasse and the Töpferstrasse are still a reminder of this factory today. Another large company was VEB Elektrowärme Sörnewitz (EWS, formerly Siemens-Elektrowärme-Gesellschaft) in the Köhlerstraße / Kahlhügelweg area and a glassworks. The companies had their own siding early on. On July 1, 1950, Neusörnewitz was reclassified as part of the municipality of Sörnewitz to Coswig. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, some of the large companies were wound up and the business areas were converted into commercial areas.
