geography

Clieben is located in the west of the Coswig city area. The district belongs to the district Brockwitz and borders in the west and north on Sörnewitz and in the east on the district Brockwitz. The village of Scharfenberg of the municipality of Klipphausen lies to the south .

The village of Clieben lies on the banks of the Elbe in the north-western part of the Elbe valley , the district is also traversed by the Lockwitzbach coming from Moritzburg . In the center of the corridor, the village center was preserved in the form of a street village . It goes directly to the east and without any recognizable border into the village center of Brockwitz. To the north and south of the village center of Clieben there are agricultural and horticultural areas.

history

Clieben was first mentioned in a document in 1205, when Margrave Dietrich the Oppressed donated the village “Clewan” and its neighboring towns to the Augustinian Canons Monastery of St. Afra in Meißen. The place name comes from Old Sorbian and means "people from the stables". Over the centuries it changed, among other things, via the forms "Klebin", "Klieben" and "Cleue" to the current name.

On the 98 hectare (status: 1870) large, mining- like strip of land in Cliebens, the residents mainly farmed and raised cattle, and also viticulture on both sides of today's Cliebener Straße. Clieben was administered by the Meissen Hereditary Authority . The manorial rule was exercised by the lords of the Scharfenberg manor , i.e. members of the von Miltitz family . They had received the first shares in the village in 1403. Clieben was and is parish in Brockwitz.

On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , Clieben became a part of the newly formed rural community "Brockwitz mit Clieben". With this Clieben went on July 1, 1950 through an incorporation in Coswig.
