history

Neucoswig at the historic Talkenberger Hof winery

The first buildings on parcels of today's Neucoswig district were built in the 16th century. Prior to this, the village of Kreyern , located a few kilometers northeast in the middle of the Friedewald, had been dissolved and cleared at the behest of Elector August in order to enlarge its contiguous hunting area. The residents were relocated to the Coswiger Flur, some of them probably also settled in what would later become Neucoswig. Among the new residents of Coswig was a "Jorg Dalchenbergk" who was mentioned in the Coswig church book in 1595. The name of the "Talkenberger Hof" goes back to him, according to an inscription on the door arch, the most important Neucoswig winery that he built in 1607. Extensive forests were cleared in the course of the settlement and gave way to vineyards.

The terms "In the new village" or "In the mountains" were initially used for the resulting settlement. Based on the rural community code of 1838 , the settlement became an independent rural community and thus has a history similar to that of the wine-growing communities of Ober- and Niederlößnitz in neighboring Radebeul. In 1839 the term "vineyard community" appears for the first time. The place was not called Neucoswig until 1862. Initially, the Moritzburg office administered the settlement, and in 1875 it became part of the Meißen administration .

In the course of the 19th century, rows of houses were added to the existing wineries. From 1890 the Lindenhof was converted into a "sanatorium for mentally and nervously ill people". In 1900 the area of the corridor was 90 hectares. On May 1, 1913, the Neucoswig railway station on the Berlin – Dresden line opened ; regional traffic was discontinued in 2002. The municipality completed its town hall in 1914, which is located on Geschwister-Scholl-Platz and which today serves as a residential building. Six years later, on April 1, 1920, it was incorporated into Coswig, which for the first time expanded to include another village. Since then, Neucoswig has shared the history of Coswig, in which it is also a parish.
