The Lockwitzbach is a southward-flowing right tributary of the Elbe in the Saxon district of Meißen . It has its headwaters on meadows between Auer and Dippelsdorf . The origin of the name of the brook is assumed to be in the Old Sorbian Lukovia ("meadow brook ").

course

The stream is fed by several watercourses from the meadow areas west of Dippelsdorf and the Friedewald and runs in a south-westerly direction past the Kreyern forester's house to its confluence with the Spitzgrundteich. This pond was artificially created as a reservoir to use the water power in the Spitzgrundmühle. In the further course it crosses under the railway line Berlin – Dresden as well as the route of the tram line 4 of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe and the Weinböhlaer Straße. Then it swings south, stays west of the sports grounds of the Coswig soccer club and meets the railway line to Meißen . Then the industrial area on Industriestrasse is crossed in a straight line, the Haudelteich is tangent to the west and under Dresdner Strasse ( S 82 ). After crossing under Brockwitzer Strasse, the watercourse divides into two arms. One runs in a south-easterly direction, parallel to Brockwitzer Straße, and after about 1.5 kilometers flows into an oxbow lake on the Gauernitzer Elbe island .

The other arm corresponds to the historical course of the stream and extends about 3.5 kilometers in a north-westerly direction. This piece is partially silted up and only carries water in heavy rain. The confluence with the Elbe lies in the district of Sörnewitz .
