Club development

The Coswiger FV traces its history back to the SpVgg Coswig association founded in 1920. After the Soviet occupation forces banned all sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945, athletes from Coswig joined forces in a provisionally organized sports community. From 1948 onwards, sports in East Germany were directed on the basis of company sports associations (BSG). In Coswig, among other things, the hard casting plant from one of the previous sports associations founded a BSG, which was taken over by the Coswiger Lack- und Farbenfabrik in 1952 and from then on as BSG Chemie Coswig / Sa. competed with several sports sections. According to various sources, the BSG was briefly called Motor Coswig in 1957. The BSG Chemie existed until 1990. As a result of the economic changes after the political change in 1989, the paint and varnish factory stopped supporting the BSG.

BSG members then re-founded the Grün-Weiß Coswig game association as a registered club in 1990, reflecting on the earlier sports club . 1. FC Coswig was founded in 2011 to concentrate the youth work, and five years later considerations arose for a merger of this still young club with SpVgg. It was sealed at the founding meeting on March 29, 2017; the club was named Coswiger FV.

Development of the sport of football

Until the mid-1950s, football was only played in the lower class in Coswig, Saxony. It was not until 1955 that BSG Chemie was promoted to the Dresden district league, which was fourth at the time . Her first district league season she finished in 1956 with a good 5th place.

In 1956, Chemie Coswig also qualified for the GDR-wide competition for the 1957 FDGB soccer cup . In that year, the BSG competed under the name "Motor" and met third division club SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt in the first round at home . He was surprisingly clearly defeated 4-1. Also in the next round the Coswig had home rights and defeated BSG Progress Falkenstein , who played a league lower, with 5: 2. In the first main round, the second division progress Meerane was drawn as an opponent. Although Coswig enjoyed home rights for the third time, this time after the 2: 3 defeat the cup came out.

After the 1959 season, chemistry Coswig had to relegate as bottom of the table in the fifth division district class. It was not until 1972 that he returned to the now third-class district league, but only for two years. In 1981, chemistry rose again for a year in the district league, after which the BSG chemistry only played in the lower class area.

When the DFB game system was introduced in Saxony in 1990, the game association Coswig started in the Meissen district class (7th league). Grün-Weiß then played in the Dresden district class for over ten years. In the 2012/13 season Coswig was champion of the meanwhile district upper league and played since the 2013/14 season in the district league center and the subsequent state class center.
