Chortyzja (Ukrainian Хортиця ; Russian Chortiza / Хортица , formerly German Chortitza ) is a village near the city of Zaporizhia in southern central Ukraine .

history
The place was created in 1789 during the settlement of the area by the Mennonites (see also Colony Chortitza ) and carried the German name Chortitza.
