Neusoft ( Chinese 東軟 集團 / 东软 集团 , Pinyin Dōngruǎn jítuán ) is a leading software development and IT service company in China . It is headquartered in Shenyang , China and was founded in 1991 as a spin-off from Northeastern University (Shenyang) . The company name was formed from the first letters of this university, "NEW", and the first letters of the word " software ". Today, Neusoft is the largest software development and IT service company in China with around 20,000 employees and 8 regional headquarters, 16 centers for software development, 5 locations for software research and 3 private IT institutes. The company has subsidiaries in the USA ( Livonia (Michigan) , Santa Clara (California) , Morrisville (North Carolina) ), Japan ( Tokyo ), Switzerland ( Appenzell ), Germany ( Hamburg , Munich ) and Romania ( Cluj-Napoca ).

In 2004, Philips and Neusoft founded a joint venture for the production and development of medical systems.
