NeuStar, Inc. ( spelling : Neustar ) is an American information and communication service provider. The company has become known to the general public as the Domain Name Registry .

history

When it was founded in 1996, NeuStar - at that time still under the name Communications Industry Services - was a business unit of the lockheed martin armaments company , which dealt with new services in the telecommunications sector. A year later the company won the tender of the North American Numbering Plan and is therefore still responsible for the administrative management of phone numbers in the United States and Canada . In the course of the takeover of COMSAT by Lockheed Martin, NeuStar was converted into an independent company in 1999 in order to guarantee the neutrality of COMSAT's business.

In 2000 the subsidiary NeuLevel , a joint venture between NeuStar and the hoster MelbourneIT , won the operation of the top-level domain .biz . The company subsequently took over the management of .us (2001) and .tel (2007), and has also been the technical operator of .cn ( China ) and .tw ( Taiwan ) since 2002 .

NeuStar went public in 2005 and has since been listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol NSR . Numerous other companies were taken over, for example the DNS provider UltraDNS or Webmetrics , a specialist in network monitoring . In June 2013 ICANN announced a new contract with NeuStar. This allowed the company for the first time to assign .biz domains to end customers without having to resort to an accredited registrar.

In 2017, NeuStar was bought by Golden Gate Capital and GIC and delisted from the stock exchange.

In April 2020 GoDaddy announced that it would buy Neustars Registry business.

Products

The NeuStar product range is divided into the two areas Promote and Protect . The former includes web analytics , inbound marketing and other services that are intended to directly promote sales . Under Protect products are summarized on the other hand, the existing products services are intended to prevent problems - for example, in front of a distributed denial of service or congestion and loss of streaming offerings .

According to the company, NeuStar's customers included Ticketmaster , Banco Santander and Dollar Financial .
