Newaya Mariam

Newaya Mariam ( Ethiop . ንዋየ ማርያም , throne name Wedem Asfare or Gemma Asfare ; † 1382 ) was from 1372 to 1382 Negus Negest ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia and a member of the Solomon dynasty . He was the eldest son of Newaya Krestos .

During his reign, Haqq ad-Din II from the Walasma dynasty gained control of the kingdom of Ifat , which stretched along the southeastern border of Ethiopia, in 1376 . From then on, this sultan undertook raids on the empire. According to EA Wallis Budge , little is known from the Royal Chronicles about Newaya Mariam who left no descendants.
