Description according to Schweickhardt
Franz Xaver Schweickhardt described Gramatl as follows in 1836:
- Gramatl: a village not far from Neunkirchen with 19 houses. The next post station is Neunkirchen. This place belongs to the parish and school, after Hassbach, only a quarter of an hour away; the patronage of the rule Steyersberg. (...) In the village of Gramatl there are 22 families (59 males, 61 females, 30 school-age children), 32 draft oxen, 29 cows, 54 sheep, 2 goats and 19 breeding pigs.
- According to the manorial land register, this small place appears 300 years ago, but is much older.
- (...) There is neither a river nor a stream nearby; Forests are all around, and it also has a little huntability. The products and trade of the inhabitants are limited to timber and lime kilns, for their grounds and cattle-raising are quite insignificant.
- Incidentally, there are no noteworthy items here. The events and the fates suffered in this place, which is quite isolated, are also unknown.

Historical buildings and monuments
Grabensee
West of Gramatl at the confluence of two streams are the remains of Grabensee Castle, which was first mentioned in 1387. The legend of the Grabensee shoemaker who is supposed to repair shoes while sitting on the ruins of the castle is well known. The Lower Austrian State Museum carried out archaeological excavations in 1961/62 to clarify the history of the sunken castle.
Weaver cross
The Weber Cross, the oldest legal monument in the community, is located directly on the street between Gramatl and Straßhof. The wayside shrine was built in the late Gothic style, on the capital you can see a chiseled flesh beard and a weaver's ship. According to a legend, a butcher and a weaver killed each other here because of a girl. The cross should serve as an atoning remembrance.
