Newby O. Brantly

Newby Odell Brantly (born April 13, 1905 in Newport (Texas) , † July 19, 1993 in Frederick (Oklahoma) ) was an American inventor and entrepreneur .

Life

Newby Brantly was born in 1905 to William and Ida Brantly and grew up with his two brothers Henry and Olan in the city of Newport, Texas. Brantly was married to Emma Dean Armstrong from 1932 until her death in 1968. In 1969 he married Virginia Beth Keen, with whom he had a daughter, Lynne Susan Wilkens. In 1961 he was named Pilot of the Year by the National Pilots Association .

His patented inventions include a knitting machine for the Penn Elastic company (US patent 2067900 from 1935), a deep pump (US patent 4534168 from 1983), a sports bra (Brantly / Cameo, US patent 5643043 from 1995) and backhoes for tractors.

As an entrepreneur he founded the Brantly Helicopter Corporation , the Brantly Manufacturing Company and, in 1968, the Frybrant company in Frederick (Oklahoma) .
