The Brantly International Inc. is a helicopter manufacturer based in Qingdao in the Chinese province of Shandong .

history

The company was in 1945 as "Brantly Helicopter Corporation" in Philadelphia , in the US state of Pennsylvania , from Newby O. Brantly founded.

Brantly Helicopter Corporation

Enthusiastic about the Sikorsky VS-300 , Newby O. Brantly decided to design a helicopter himself and began designing his first helicopter, the Brantly B-1, in 1946. In 1946 the B-1 had its maiden flight with a coaxial rotor , because the technology was too heavy and complex, but this type never went into production . Brantly had learned from the mistakes of the B-1 and began to design a two-seater with a simple 3-blade main rotor and 2-blade tail rotor , the Brantly B-2 . This helicopter had its successful maiden flight in 1953. The company moved to Frederick , Oklahoma in 1957 , where the B-2 was also approved by the FAA in 1959.

Brantly later designed the Brantly 305 , a five-seater with internal combustion engine , a simple 3-blade main rotor and a 2-blade tail rotor. This model had its maiden flight in 1965, was approved by the FAA in 1965 and went into production that same year.

When Learjet took over the "Brantly Helicopter Corporation" in 1966, the Brantly production facility in Frederick was around 17,000 m² in size and employed 100 people. The company moved to Wichita , Kansas in 1969 . Learjet sold the "Brantly Helicopter Corporation" in 1969 to the "Aeronautical Research & Development Corporation" (ARDC), which ended production in 1970.

Brantly-Hynes

In 1972 Michael K. Hynes and his company "Brantly Operators Inc." acquired the rights to the "Brantly Helicopter Corporation" and renamed the company in 1975 to "Brantly-Hynes Helicopter Inc.". The original plan was to provide spare parts to existing customers, but due to demand, production of the Brantly B-2 and Brantly 305 was resumed. In the same year, the company changed hands again when it was taken over by Franklin Capital Corp., led by lawyer F. Lee Bailey (who was also the owner of Enstrom at the time).

Brantly International

The Japanese-American entrepreneur James T. Kimura bought “Brantly-Hynes Helicopter Inc.” in 1989 and renamed the company “Brantly International”. A new production facility was later built in Vernon, Texas, and received FAA approval in 1996. The US American trade association Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) showed twelve Brantly B-2Bs delivered between 1981 and 2007.

Qingdao Haili Helicopters

Production at Wilbarger County Airport (FAA Ident: F05) in Vernon , Texas , was discontinued at the end of 2009 and closed on September 13, 2010. The company moved to China and is now owned by Qingdao Haili Helicopters Co. Ltd. ". This company is now the only manufacturer of the B-2B. In 2010, Qingdao Haili Helicopters also took over the US engine manufacturer "Superior Air Parts" in Coppell (Texas) .
