history
The team was founded for the 1996/97 season under the name Newcastle Cobras as a member of the Ice Hockey Superleague , which was held for the first time . In this, the team was not particularly successful and in the five years of its existence occupied one of the lower places in the league. From 1998 to 2000, the team played under the name Newcastle Riverkings, before they ended their last season, the 2000/01 season as Newcastle Jesters.
The void that the team left in the city was filled by the Newcastle Vipers , who ran into the Ice Hockey Superleague and its successor Elite Ice Hockey League until their dissolution in 2011 .
