Erkki Rajamäki (born October 30, 1978 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with Ilves Tampere in the SM-liiga .
Career
Erkki Rajamäki began his career as an ice hockey player with Kiekko-Vantaa , in whose youth teams he was active from 1994 to 1998. He then moved to Helsingfors IFK , for which he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1998/99 season , when he remained pointless in 14 games and received two penalty minutes. He was then selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round as a total of 216 players from the Tampa Bay Lightning , for which he however never played. After a year in the team at Colgate University , the Finn returned to Europe, where he played for his former club from Helsinki in the 2000/01 season. He was also this season for FPS Forssa from the Mestis and the Newcastle Jesters from the British Ice Hockey Superleague on the ice.
Then Rajamäki played in the SM-liiga for two years for HPK Hämeenlinna and one season for Ilves Tampere . For the 2004/05 season the striker went to North America for a second time, where he was active in the American Hockey League for the Worcester IceCats . After he began the following season with the Peoria Rivermen from the AHL and the Utah Grizzlies from the ECHL , he returned to Finland, where he was under contract with the Espoo Blues from 2005 to 2010 . With Espoo Rajamäki reached the championship finals of the SM-liiga in the 2007/08 season , in which he lost with his team against Kärpät Oulu .
After he suspended the game operation during the 2010/11 season , he joined his ex-club, the reigning Finnish champions Helsingfors IFK, for the following season . In October 2012 he moved to Ilves Tampere within the SM-liiga .
