location

Gut Sülz is on the edge of Oberdollendorf at about 77  m above sea level. NHN at the foot of the so-called Sülzenberg , a vineyard on the western slope of the Dollendorfer Hardt and is surrounded by extensive meadows.

history

The winery was first mentioned in 966 together with the town of Dullendorf and was a noble Freihof at that time . Since the 14th century it was owned by the nearby Cistercian Abbey of Heisterbach . The current building was built in 1656 and was expanded at the end of the 19th century. Until the secularization of the abbey in 1803 as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the Sülz estate was the focus of the Heisterbach wine industry. In the middle of the 19th century the estate belonged to the "Rhine Countess" Sibylle Mertens-Schaaffhausen , who sold it on May 2, 1857 to the Jewish merchant David Cahn (1818-1891). In 1967 wine production ended at Gut Sülz, and since then it has been home to a wine tavern with indoor and outdoor catering. The property was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter on December 18, 1990.

From spring to autumn 2014, the forecourt of the Sülz estate was redesigned with funds from the Regionale 2010 . The square was paved with basalt , a previous retaining wall made of concrete was replaced by one made of natural stone and curbs were removed so that the Bachstraße was widened. In the first half of 2020, Gut Sülz is to be extensively renovated as part of a new lease of the catering trade.

architecture

The original two-storey building from 1656 is an angle courtyard complex built using the frame construction method . The ground floor is plastered (originally in half-timbered), the upper floor with decorative framework . A southern, three-story extension of the house on the eaves side dates from the end of the 19th century and is a plastered half-timbered house . On the gable side of the richly decorated attic there is a wooden balcony. A terrace adjoining the main house and its interior redesign to a restaurant go back to the same time.
