Newcomb is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon in the Montes Taurus mountain range , southeast of Lacus Somniorum and north of Lacus Bonitatis . The irregularly shaped crater shows traces of extensive landslides inside.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the American astronomer and mathematician Simon Newcomb .
