Newton Mendonça

Newton Mendonça (born February 14, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro ; † November 22, 1960 ibid) was a Brazilian pianist and poet and one of the co-founders of Bossa Nova .

Life

Mendonça worked with Antônio Carlos Jobim , with whom he shared the pianist job in a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro for a while . His song Desafinado made the new style of music of Bossa Nova world famous in just a few months. At 33 he died of a heart attack , the second in his short life. So he could no longer experience the huge success that his songs had, especially through the recordings by Stan Getz and João Gilberto .
