Next generation vehicle

Next Generation Vehicle is a joint research project founded in 2004 by the automobile manufacturers Audi , BMW , Fiat , DaimlerChrysler , Saab Automobile and Volvo Cars as well as the stainless steel manufacturers Outokumpu , Thyssenkrupp and Arcelor Mittal - Stainless Europe (Ugine & Alz). One of the main objectives of the project is to reduce costs and weight when using stainless steel in vehicle construction, while at the same time improving vehicle safety and environmental compatibility .

The first results of the project were presented at the IAA 2007. The press conference was aimed at an audience interested in future vehicle technology and the implications for sustainable development . Among other things, the weight of cars was discussed.
