Nicholas Kazanas

Nicholas Kazanas (* 1939 in Chios , Greece ) is a Greek Indologist .

He studied Sanskrit and Indology at the renowned School of Oriental and African Studies and at Deccan College in Pune , India. He taught Indology in London and Athens. Since 1980 he has headed the Omilos Meleton Cultural Institute in Athens, an institute in which u. a. Sanskrit is also taught. He is on the editorial board of the Adyar Library Bulettin.

He translated several Gnostic texts into Greek and also translated ten Upanishads into Greek. He also wrote on economic history .

He is a representative of the Indian original homeland theory . in a special edition of the Journal of Indo-European Studies , he made arguments against the mainstream theory of Indo-Aryan migration. His position was widely criticized, including a. by M Witzel, Richard Meadow, Martin Huld, Edwin Bryant , DP Agrawal, Asko Parpola, Stefan Zimmer, JP Mallory and Elena Kuzmina.
