Nicholas Shaxson

Nicholas Shaxson (* 1966 ) is a British author, journalist and member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in London. He is best known for his investigative books Poisoned Wells (2007) and Treasure Islands (2011). Shaxson is a researcher and writer with the Tax Justice Network , an expert-led NGO working on tax justice and tax havens .

biography

Shaxson was born in Malawi and has since lived in numerous countries such as India, Brazil, England, Lesotho , Spain, Angola , South Africa, Germany and the Netherlands. Since 1993 he has written primarily on global economics and politics for the Financial Times , Reuters , the Economist , Economist Intelligence Unit , International Affairs , Foreign Affairs , American Interest , the BBC , Africa Confidential , African Energy, and others. His expertise covers two areas in particular: the politics and economics of oil-producing countries in the Gulf of Guinea , in particular Angola, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea , and, more recently, tax havens.

Based on his book Treasure Islands: How Tax Havens Undermine Democracy , the documentary The Spider's Web: Britain's Second Empire was released in May 2017 .

Shaxson currently lives with his partner and two children in Zurich , Switzerland .
