Nick Kalten

Nick Kalten (born December 17, 1888 in Germany , † February 17, 1950 in Los Angeles , California , United States ) was a German -American filmmaker who was awarded an Oscar , Certificate II, at the 1949 Academy Awards .

biography

In 1944, Kalten was a member of the arts department at 20th Century Fox , working on Elia Kazan's romantic drama A Tree Grows in Brooklyn .

During his time at 20th Century Fox, Technical and Special Effects Department, he and his colleague Louis J. Witte developed a special process that made it easier to handle leaves.

At the Academy Awards in 1949 , both were honored with an Oscar in the “Science and Development” category for the process they had developed for the preservation and non-flammability of foliage (“for a process of preserving and flame-proofing foliage”).
