Martti Matilainen

Martti Matilainen (born September 18, 1907 in Iisalmi , † October 20, 1993 in Valkeakoski ) was a Finnish obstacle and middle distance runner .

At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he was fourth over 3000 m obstacle .

In 1934 he was sixth over 1500 m at the European Athletics Championships in Turin .

At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, he came fourth over the 3000 m obstacle again. Over 1500 m he was eliminated in the preliminary run.

His brother Kalle Matilainen was successful as a long-distance runner and his brother Jukka Matilainen as a hurdler. His son-in-law Pekka Vasala became Olympic champion in the 1500 m in 1972.
