Kin Platt

Kin Platt (born December 8, 1911 in New York , † December 1, 2003 ) was an American writer. Among other things, he wrote two novels for the successful series Die Drei ??? under the pseudonym Nick West. written.

Life

Kin Platt was a versatile artist. He excelled as a painter, cartoonist, author and sculptor.

He was born in New York in 1911 as the son of Daniel and Etta Platt. He had a difficult youth, ran away from home when he was 7, and when he was 10 he was drawing all day. He copied cartoons and dreamed of becoming a great draftsman himself.

Platt later began working as a theater cartoonist, then, in the late 1930s, began drawing for Hanna-Barbera and Walt Disney Comics. He also illustrated and curated in various newspapers, for example for the Village Voice and the Los Angeles Times

During World War II he served in the US Army , from 1943 to 1946 was in India , Burma and China .

After the war, Platt settled in Los Angeles and began writing books for children and young people. In the back of his head, his difficult childhood and inspired by the idols of his youth such as Jack London , Charles Lamm Rabelais , Cervantes and Sigmund Freud , he quickly found his own style and wrote countless novels for the younger generation from 1961 to 1992.

His two best-known children's books in the German-speaking area come from the Three Investigators series, in Germany Die drei ??? . He published The three ??? and the creepy dragon (1970) and The three ??? and the mad lion (1971). He wrote both books under his pseudonym Nick West .

He died in 2003 at the age of almost 92.
