Nickerson Ice Shelf

The Nickerson Ice Shelf is a 56 km wide ice shelf in front of the western part of Ruppert Coast in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It is located there north of the confluence of the Siemiatkowski Glacier .
It was first sighted and roughly mapped by participants in the American Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928–1930). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after Commander Henry John Nickerson (1918–2002), administrative officer on the command staff of Task Force 43 in Operation Deep Freeze in 1966.
