from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nico Blüthgen (* 1970 ) is a German biologist and professor for ecological networks at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

He received his doctorate in 2003 from the University of Bayreuth with Professor Dr. Konrad Fiedler. His dissertation topic was How availability and quality of nectar and honeydew shape an Australian rainforest ant community (Influences of the availability and quality of nectar and honeydew on an Australian ant community).

Blüthgen and his working group research the interactions between plants and animals and classify them at the ecosystem level . He mostly uses chemical-analytical methods to understand the role of signal substances , pheromones , secondary plant substances and nutrients in various food webs that serve to ward off predators .
