Ponte Vedra Beach is a community free area (unincorporated area) of the St. Johns County in the US state of Florida with 37,924 inhabitants (2007).

Jacksonville is 19 miles to the northwest and St. Augustine is 25 miles to the south. The Florida State Road A1A through the town. The sandy beaches of Ponte Vedra Beach are located directly on the Atlantic Ocean in the east.
history
In 1914, the minerals titanium iron ore , zircon and rutile were found in the sandy beach and the place was named Mineral City . These substances were of strategic importance in the First World War . After the end of the war, the demand for these minerals decreased again and the place developed more and more into a tourist center and retirement home due to its climatically favorable location and was now called Ponte Vedra or Ponte Vedra Beach, based on the Spanish city of Pontevedra .
The Players Championship (The Players Championship) has been taking place every year in May since 1982 at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass (TPC at Sawgrass) golf course in Ponte Vedra Beach . The green of the 17th hole on this golf course, which is completely surrounded by water, is considered to be one of the most difficult and spectacular holes in golf.
Today Ponte Vedra Beach is one of the most exclusive resting places in the USA and with a large number of golf and tennis facilities it is also extremely attractive for those who practice these sports.
