Nicola Moscardelli

Nicola Moscardelli (born October 9, 1894 in Ofena , † December 21, 1943 in Rome ) was an Italian writer, journalist and literary critic.

Moscardelli made his debut in 1913 with the symbolist volumes of poetry Le fiamme and La veglia . In 1914 he went to Florence, where his collection of poems Abbeveratoio was written under the influence of Futurism . As an advocate of interventionism , he fought as a reserve lieutenant in the Pinerolo Infantry Brigade on the Isonzo Front on the Karst . In 1915 he was badly wounded in the face. The injury left a visible scar and led to partial facial paralysis, which prevented him from chewing for the rest of his life and repeatedly forced him to stay in hospital for longer periods. For his military service he was awarded the silver medal for bravery . He reflected on his war experiences in the volume of poems Tatuaggi (dt. Tattoos).

In 1916 he settled in Rome and founded the avant-garde magazine Le pagine with Giovanni Titta Rosa and Maria D'Arezzo , which existed until 1917 and in which foreign authors such as Tristan Tzara also published. The volume of poetry Gioelleria notturna was published in 1918 and the collection of lyrical prose La mendica muta in 1919 .

From 1918 Moscardelli worked as a journalist and literary critic for magazines such as Il Tempo , Giornale di Roma , Il Sereno , Il Serenissimo , Il Popolo di Roma and L'Italia . In the early 1920s he was also interested in prose literature, and after acquaintance with Anton Giulio Bragaglia , the director of the Teatro degli Indipendenti, for drama, but he always remained a poet at heart. from 1929 to 1939 he was secretary of the Accademia d'Italia , after which he taught literature at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecila .

Moscardelli died in 1943 at the age of 49 as a result of being injured in the war. His bones were transferred to the Ofena cemetery in 1953.
