Nicolae Istrate

Nicolae Istrate (born October 24, 1982 in Câmpulung Moldovenesc ) is a former Romanian bobsledder and athlete .

Istrate started bobsleigh in 2000 and was included in the national team in the same year. In the 2004/05 World Cup season , he came in 32nd place in the overall two-man bobsleigh standings. In 2006 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Turin , where he finished 24th with the two-man bobsleigh and 22nd with the four-man bobsleigh. At the 2007 Bobsleigh World Championships in St. Moritz, Istrate finished eleventh in two. In Altenberg at the 2008 Bobsleigh World Championships , he finished 20th in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh.

At the 2009 World Bobsleigh Championship in Lake Placid, Istrate finished 18th in the two-man bobsleigh. The next winter he took part in his second Olympic Games . In Vancouver he reached eleventh place in the two-man bobsleigh and 15th place in the four-man bobsleigh. At the 2011 World Bobsleigh Championship at Königssee, Istrate made it into the top ten in the world for the first time when he finished eighth in the two-man bobsleigh. At the World Championships in Lake Placid the following year, he was fifteenth. In 2014 he took part again, for the third time, in the Olympic Games . In Sochi , Istrate took 17th place in the two-man bobsleigh with his long-time pusher Florin Crăciun .

In addition to bobsleigh, Nicolae Istrate ran athletics. His best performance in the decathlon was in Bucharest in 2005 with 6949 points.
