Nicolas Lebel
Nicolas Lebel (born August 18, 1838 in Saint-Mihiel , Meuse department ; † June 6, 1891 in Vitré , Ille-et-Vilaine department ) was a French officer and weapons technician.
Together with the engineer Vieille , Lebel constructed a small-caliber repeating rifle named after him ( M86 caliber 8 × 50 mm R Lebel ), which already used the then novel jacketed bullets . The rifle was introduced into the French army after extensive trials .
