Nicolas Ruwet

Nicolas Ruwet (born December 31, 1932 in Saive, Blegny ; † November 14, 2001 in Paris ) was a French linguist and Romance scholar of Belgian origin.

life and work

Ruwet studied in Liège and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he came into contact with generative grammar . He conducted research first in Belgium, then as a professor at the University of Paris VIII, founded in 1971 .

Ruwet was also competent in musicology.
