Nicolau Sevcenko
Nicolau Sevcenko (* 1952 in Santos ; † August 13, 2014 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian historian .
Life
Sevcenko received his PhD in social history from the University of São Paulo in 1981 . After holding positions at the Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Moema, at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas , he returned to the University of São Paulo in 1985. From 1986 to 1990 he was a post-doctoral student at the University of London . Since 1992 he has been teaching as a professor at the University of São Paulo. On June 12, 2009 he was appointed professor of Romance languages and literatures at Harvard University.
His area of expertise was contemporary history, especially the 1920s , culture and São Paulo .
