Nicolau Sevcenko

Nicolau Sevcenko (* 1952 in Santos ; † August 13, 2014 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian historian .

Life

Sevcenko received his PhD in social history from the University of São Paulo in 1981 . After holding positions at the Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Moema, at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas , he returned to the University of São Paulo in 1985. From 1986 to 1990 he was a post-doctoral student at the University of London . Since 1992 he has been teaching as a professor at the University of São Paulo. On June 12, 2009 he was appointed professor of Romance languages ​​and literatures at Harvard University.

His area of ​​expertise was contemporary history, especially the 1920s , culture and São Paulo .
