Nicolaus Faber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicolaus Faber (exact life dates unknown, * probably in Bozen ) was a Bavarian clergyman and cantor .

Nicolaus Faber is only known from being mentioned on the title page of the music theory book Musicae rudimenta by Johannes Aventinus , printed in Augsburg in 1515. There it says "Nicolaus Faber Vuolazanus illustrissimi Principis Arionisti vtriusque Boiariae Cantor et a Sacris". Then he was cantor and chaplain to Duke Ernst of Bavaria . The notes on the title page and a preceding distich may have come from him. He is possibly identical to Nikolaus Georg Fabri, court chaplain to Duke Ludwig X. of Bavaria , who was friends with Aventinus.
