Nicolaus Gürtler

Nicolaus Gürtler (born December 8, 1654 in Basel , † September 28, 1711 in Franeker ; also Guertlerus or Gurtlerus ) was a Reformed theologian and university professor .

Life

Gürtler studied from 1669 at the University of Basel , also in Geneva and Saumur . In 1672 he obtained his master's degree in Basel . In 1685 he accepted a call as professor of philosophy and eloquence at the University of Herborn , but in 1686 he went to the University of Heidelberg where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate .

As a recognized theologian, he received a multitude of calls. In 1688 he became professor of theology in Hanau , then in 1696 in Bremen . Just three years later, in 1699, he went to the University of Deventer and finally in 1707 to the University of Franeker .

Gürtler died in Franeker in 1711. He left about 30 writings for posterity.
