Nicolaus Pistoris (* 1411 in Leipzig ; † February 5, 1471 ibid) was a German physician and personal physician and mayor of Leipzig .

Live and act

After completing school, Nicolaus Pistoris enrolled at the University of Leipzig in the winter semester of 1426 to study medicine and in 1429 obtained his baccalaureate . In 1442 he studied law, which, however, should not play the dominant role for him. On 9 July 1448 finally earned his Dr. med. and after his habilitation some time afterwards he was appointed full professor of the medical faculty of the University of Leipzig.

From 1453 he was elected councilor in Leipzig and some time later he was appointed to the council of Elector Ernst of Saxony and his brother, Duke Albrecht of Saxony . He served both of them primarily as a personal physician, but certainly also as a consultant due to his legal skills. Despite all these burdens, he was also elected mayor of Leipzig by the city council in 1467 and took office again in 1470 after the three-year change in Leipzig.

family

Nicolaus Pistoris, whose paternal ancestors came from Borna near Leipzig and were originally called Begker / Becker , was married to Catharina Wolkenstein (1423–1481) and had at least two children with her, including Simon Pistoris the Elder , who followed in his father's footsteps and also became a physician, university professor and personal physician. Nicolaus Pistoris was a highly esteemed man in his time and with him the scientific fame of the Leipzig scholar family Pistoris began over many generations, who were also raised to imperial nobility in 1521 .
