Nicor Inc. was an American holding company listed in the S&P 500 stock index and headquartered in Naperville , Illinois . In December 2011, Nicor was acquired by AGL Resources .
Nicor was primarily active in gas supply through various subsidiaries, but also in the shipping business. Nicor Gas currently still exists as a subsidiary of AGL Resources.
The shares are traded on the two bad guys in New York and Chicago under the symbol GAS . Russ M. Strobel has been Chairman and CEO of the company since 2005 .
In August 2007, the Securities and Exchange Commission has SEC fraud case against the former manager Thomas Fisher (CEO), Kathleen Halloran ( CFO ) and George Behrens, head of the finance department initiated. Between 1999 and 2002, they allegedly approved illegal transactions to meet profit and revenue targets.

Northern Illinois Gas Company was founded in 1954 and is one of the largest gas suppliers in the United States, with 2007 sales of $ 2.627 billion . Nicor's largest subsidiary buys natural gas on the open market and, according to its own information, supplies 2.2 million customers in northern Illinois , excluding the city of Chicago , in a total of 641 communities.
It operates a 37,000 mile long pipe network that is connected to the North American network via eight pipelines and eight underground storage facilities with a capacity of 150 billion cubic feet .
At the end of 2007, Nicor Gas employed 2,100 people.
- Tropical Shipping
The company, based in West Palm Beach ( Florida ), transports freight containers in the Caribbean and the Bahamas . With 2007 sales of $ 403.9 million, Tropical Shipping is one of the largest shipping companies in the region.
At the end of 2007, eight owned and a further eleven chartered ships belonged to the fleet with an approximate total capacity of 5900 TEU .
