Nicotiana paniculata is a plant type from the genus tobacco ( Nicotiana ) from the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Nicotiana paniculata is a multi-leaved, bushy, annual plant that occasionally reaches heights of up to 3 m and has many sturdy, upright or splaying branches that are almost as tall as the main shoot. The stem axis is powdery, finely haired at the base, sticky hairy upwards, especially in the inflorescences. The leaves are powdery, finely haired on the underside, are ovate to heart-shaped and are 10 to 15 (rarely up to 30) cm long including the flower stalk.

The flower stalks are 2 to 5 mm long and extend to 5 to 10 mm on the fruits. The calyx is narrowly cylindrical and 6 to 10 mm long. The wedge-shaped calyx teeth are shorter than the calyx tube. The crown is yellowish-green in color, hairless or almost hairless and 2 to 3 cm long. The corolla tube itself is 3 to 5 mm long and 2 to 3 mm long, the club-shaped crown throat is three to five times as long and 1.5 to three times as wide. The coronet is 2 to 3 mm wide, the corolla lobes are often pointed. The stamens are slightly above the crown. All five or only four of the stamens are slightly bent. They start at the base of the crown throat and are hairy there.

The fruit is an elliptical egg-shaped capsule that is 8 to 12 mm long and is usually enclosed by the calyx. The seeds are elongated, angular-egg-shaped or elliptical, occasionally also indented. They become 0.5 to 0.6 mm long and are blackish-brown. The surface is grooved, network-like. The embryo is straight.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in Peru and occurs there at altitudes between 300 and 3100 m.
